Easiest Bread Dough Ever

We made this a couple of days ago and it was a lot of fun and VERY easy! The recipe is from the book First Art- Art Experiences for Toddlers and Twos by MaryAnn F. Kohl. We got it from the library, but I am considering purchasing it because it has a lot of fun ideas.

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 Tbs. Yeast
  • 2+ Cups Flour
  • 1 tsp. Oil
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  1. Mix water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl until yeast softens (approximately 2-3 minutes)
  2. Add 1 cup of flour and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until smooth.
  3. Add oil, salt, and another cup of flour.
  4. Pour the batter onto a floured surface and knead the dough for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth, elastic, and satiny.
  5. Put the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a clean towel- let rise for about 45 minutes.
  6. Punch the dough down and work it into a smooth ball.
  7. Divide into portions and make your creations- place each completed sculpture on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy :) I thought it tasted pretty good hot with butter- but then again most things do.
If you look very closely you may see, a bat, a Jack-O-Lantern, a spider, and two birthday cakes. Savannah came up with the birthday cakes on her own- I personally think they turned out quite nice :)
